Student Life

Community Service

Faith in action. Holy Family students learn early that serving others is at the heart of the Gospel — and we give them the structure, partners, and projects to live it out.

Service Hour Requirements

Each grade builds on the last, growing from classroom kindness projects to independent service in the wider community.

School-Wide Service Projects

A handful of signature drives bring the whole HFCS community together each year.

November

Thanksgiving Food Drive

School-wide collection of non-perishable goods distributed through local parish food pantries.

December

Advent Giving Tree

Each classroom adopts families in need, providing Christmas gifts, coats, and pantry staples.

Lent

Lenten Almsgiving Campaign

Students raise funds for Catholic Relief Services' Rice Bowl and a chosen local ministry.

April

Spring Service Day

Middle school students spend a day off-campus working with area nonprofits and parishes.

Local Partner Organizations

Service hours completed with any of these partners — or other approved nonprofits and parish ministries — count toward requirements.

  • St. Paul the Apostle Parish Food Pantry
  • Catholic Charities of Acadiana
  • St. Joseph Diner
  • Faith House of Acadiana
  • Miles Perret Cancer Services
  • Lafayette Habitat for Humanity
  • Ronald McDonald House of Acadiana
  • Acadiana Animal Aid

To propose a new partner organization, email the Service Coordinator before beginning hours.

Service Learning Curriculum

Service is woven into the daily life of Holy Family Catholic School — not an add-on. Through religion class, faith formation, and reflection, students connect what they do for others to Catholic Social Teaching and the example of Christ.

Classroom Reflection

Students journal and discuss their service experiences in religion class each quarter.

Catholic Social Teaching

Lessons tie service to the seven themes — dignity of the person, solidarity, care for creation, and more.

8th Grade Capstone

Eighth graders design and lead a service project that addresses a real community need.

Family Service

Families are encouraged to serve together; joint hours count toward each child's requirement.
