Community Service
Faith in action. Holy Family students learn early that serving others is at the heart of the Gospel — and we give them the structure, partners, and projects to live it out.
Service Hour Requirements
Each grade builds on the last, growing from classroom kindness projects to independent service in the wider community.
| Grade Level | Annual Hours | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| PreK – 2nd | Class projects | Classroom-based service experiences |
| 3rd – 5th | 5 hours / year | Family or school-organized service |
| 6th Grade | 10 hours / year | Parish & local community |
| 7th Grade | 15 hours / year | Expanded community partners |
| 8th Grade | 20 hours / year | Leadership & capstone service project |
Students submit a Service Hour Verification Form signed by the supervising adult. Forms are available in the school office and on the parent portal.
Hours are logged throughout the year. Final verification forms are due to homeroom teachers by the first Friday of May.
School-Wide Service Projects
A handful of signature drives bring the whole HFCS community together each year.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
School-wide collection of non-perishable goods distributed through local parish food pantries.
Advent Giving Tree
Each classroom adopts families in need, providing Christmas gifts, coats, and pantry staples.
Lenten Almsgiving Campaign
Students raise funds for Catholic Relief Services' Rice Bowl and a chosen local ministry.
Spring Service Day
Middle school students spend a day off-campus working with area nonprofits and parishes.

Service Learning Curriculum
Service is woven into the daily life of Holy Family Catholic School — not an add-on. Through religion class, faith formation, and reflection, students connect what they do for others to Catholic Social Teaching and the example of Christ.
Students journal and discuss their service experiences in religion class each quarter.
Lessons tie service to the seven themes — dignity of the person, solidarity, care for creation, and more.
Eighth graders design and lead a service project that addresses a real community need.
Families are encouraged to serve together; joint hours count toward each child's requirement.
